Getting Youngsters Excited

WTTW11 concludes its seventh season of Arts Across Illinois with CenterStage, an exciting live one-hour entertainment special from the Grainger Studio, airing on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 8:00 pm. This program showcases a wide variety of talented musicians, dancers and storytellers from throughout the state of Illinois.

Singer-songwriter, blues pianist and harmonica master Corky Siegel of Chicago will host the broadcast. Performers also include:

Champaign resident Yang Ying is one of China’s foremost masters of the erhu – a Chinese two-stringed fiddle. Her compositions are a fusion of various Chinese and Western musical idioms.

Juan Dies, of the Sones De Mexico Ensemble, first met fabled Mexican bolero player Gustavo Lopez at the Old Town School of Folk Music. He quickly befriended Lopez, famous in the 1950s and 60s, and helped revitalize his career.
