the DTV Countdown Continues
I would like everyone to know that tomorrow night at 7pm on Chicago Tonight we are going to have another segment on DTV. We are going to try and focus on antennas, which seems to be a big issue for our viewers. So please tune in.
We are also going to talk with someone from the FCC, who is visiting Chicago to help people with the transition. We will have more on where he will be this week tomorrow on the show.
Here is something else that is quite interesting: the Federal Government has run out of money for the coupon program. Follow this link for more info: http://www.ntia.doc.gov/
I am also going to start posting answers to questions from viewers on this blog.
Have a good night everyone.
I almost forgot to mention this: I will be at a DTV Seminar at WTTW on January 17th. This is another opportunity to get some of your questions answered. We will also discuss hooking up a VCR to your converter box. Please join us.

WHATGet Your TV Ready: A WTTW Digital Transition Open House
WHEREWTTW Studios5400 N. Saint Louis AvenueChicago
WHENSaturday, January 17, 10:00 am
Do any of your household TV sets rely on set-top rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna to get a clear picture? If so, you are receiving the analog broadcast transmission that will no longer be available after February 17. WTTW wants to help you stay connected as the nation completes its transition to an all-digital system. And so with a month to go before the transition, on Saturday, January 17 from 10 am – 4 pm, we invite you to an all-day, drop-in OPEN HOUSE to help educate and provide information about this historic change in the way television signals will be transmitted. WTTW personalities, broadcast engineers, and staff will answer your questions, provide a hands-on demonstration on how to hook up a converter box to a TV set, and help troubleshoot technical difficulties. You will also be taken on a tour of the station and learn more about WTTW’s multi-channel offerings. Reservations for this FREE event are required. Space is limited, so reserve your slot now. If you have questions, please call WTTW Member Services at (773) 509-1111, ext. 6

OKay, your system knocked me off because I hadn't chosen the username, password, etc., yet...good thing I took that typing class at Oak Park & River Forest H.S. back in 63!!
QUESTION: WHY CAN'T I GET WBBM-TV/CHANNEL 2?? Got the digital conversion box, hooked it up to my indoor powered antenna, and everything else is fine....I get all the other channels but 2!!??
What's the deal? Please advise.
thanks~jkatt

Please elaborate on your recent comment that those using "free" tv might have problems. I live in a 5-story condo with analog antenna on roof. I bought a new HDTV a few months ago which is connected to the roof antenna (no Cable), and had digital break-up on channel 5 and 20, so bought an indoor antenna. Now the signal is much better (stonger??) so I rarely use the indoor antenna. Will the signal get stronger after Feb. 17? My unit faces the west (!) on first floor, and sometimes passing cars or high trucks make the pixel break-up. How will I solve this? What antenna do I need? What is the prospect of good reception for those of us using the free reception, and in high rise buildings? If this is not solvable, I feel like I'm in the era of old crank telephones! Thanks, Christian. Marilyn, Glen Ellyn
I asked this in an earlier comment:
...I find that WTTW seems to be avoiding in the DTV discussion..., when are the two Sunday newspapers (The Chicago Tribune and the Sun-Times) going to list the new digital channel choices that we who have already converted over are looking for. Both of their Sunday TV guides are still listing just the analog channels. Are they really going to wait until that last week to do their switchover? Is it any wonder then why the public regards them as so behind-the-times when it comes to technology we can use?
And I'll add, why doesn't WTTW/WFMT fill this void by publishing in their own program guide what will be on for all stations in our area. That would be a coup since the major dailies are seemingly asleep on this subject.
