Hello Diana. It is strongly advised to stop playing all taped materials. I am a electronics technician, and do research and development work. The physical principles of recorded magnetic tape is based on the tape being pulled across a recording or playback head. This physical contact causes friction to wear off the magnetic material on the tape. The tape itself is the medium to hole the magnetic material in place. The material is relatively soft iron oxide (rust) in fundamental terms. I highly recommend for you and anyone with the ability, to find a local person who has a high grade playback deck which can be used to playback the tape and link the output to a high-grade recording input audio card on a relatively modern PC computer of Mac computer. Copyrighted materials should be kept with the digital mastered copy as your playback copy. I greatly enjoyed Wild Chicago and wish it new shows would be produced today.

I am trying to find something similar; an episode from the mid-90s which had a feature about a furniture/recycling store in Countryside (on 55th street if memory serves) which moved around '98/99. I am trying to find out the name and whether they are still in existence (and where). I hope someone can help.

An elderly Polish man who repaired VCR's in the city was highlighted on a show a couple of years ago. This man suggested hanging on to older model of VCR's as they were built better than the disposable ones of today. He also suggested getting them repaired rather than replacing them. Does anyone know his name, his store or his phone number? Thanks.
