Journey Through Jazz

Maggie Brown calls her one-woman show a "lecture." After watching her perform, you'll want to be lectured again and again.

Mining the rich legacy of jazz music, Maggie Brown blends storytelling, singing and theatre to depict the moving saga of how African-Americans survived slavery and created a thriving culture in a hostile environment.

Daughter of prolific musician, poet and activist Oscar Brown, Jr., Maggie Brown has followed in her father's footsteps, sprinkling her music with moving messages without forgetting about the demands of aesthetics.
