A Reason to Slow Down

Why beat the rush when you can join it? Rush Hour Concerts at Saint James Cathedral in Chicago provide the perfect way to unwind after a busy summer workday.

Founder Deborah Sobol calls it "great music for busy lives." She created the series so people with active lifestyles could enjoy top-quality classical music – particularly chamber music – in a format that fits their demanding schedules. Every Tuesday from June through August, the doors to Saint James Cathedral open at 5:15 p.m. for a reception of light refreshments followed by a 30-minute concert. By 6:15, the evening is over.

These free, innovative concert events performed by Chicago's finest musicians strive to connect audience members of all backgrounds through the shared experience of generous hospitality and cultural enrichment. Attendance is steadily growing. Since 2002 when the series began, the Rush Hour Concerts have become a staple of Chicago's summer cultural life.
