Arts Across Illinois

Warm weather brings a bounty of outdoor arts festivals to Illinois. From Cairo to Chicago, host Phil Ponce takes you to places where art’s the main event in Arts Across Illinois. This installment of Arts Across Illinois premieres Friday, May 14 at 7:30 pm.

SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY

Every June the hills of Southern Illinois come alive with the sounds of music. The Southern Illinois Music Festival brings world class musicians to communities from Carbondale to Cairo.

OUTSIDE ARTISTS

April showers never seem to put a damper on the hundreds of artists who come together in a carnival of creativity for Champaign-Urbana’s Boneyard Arts Festival. It’s dedicated to the idea that art can be found anywhere and everywhere - from the University of Illinois campus, to downtown Champaign, downtown Urbana, and beyond.

FAIR & SQUARE

The excitement of spring isn’t just found in nature. It’s also the season of art fairs in the Midwest. One fast growing favorite is Art on the Square, which takes place the weekend after Mother’s Day in the town of Belleville, twenty minutes east of St. Louis.

ALL THAT JAZZ

Saxophonist Ernest Dawkins is no stranger to great music, or to the underserved South Side Chicago neighborhood of Englewood. For the last ten years he’s brought internationally acclaimed artists together for the Englewood Jazz Festival, celebrating the living legacy of jazz in this South Side community.
