Employment at WTTW - Public Media Chicago

Thank you for your interest in becoming an intern at WTTW|WFMT. This internship is primarily focused on learning about major gifts fundraising with a focus on special projects, specifically Nature Cat, a new PBS Kids program, and 10 that Changed America, a national PBS series focused on architecture. This intern will gain experience in advanced prospect research on a national scale, fundraising strategy and developing compelling copy for solicitations.

General Information

  • This is a 12 week internship over the Summer of 2014
  • This is full-time (40 hours per week).
  • This is a paid internship.

Requirements

  • A student who has recently completed (by summer 2014) their sophomore, junior or senior years in good standing at an accredited college or university.
  • Applicants must have strong written and verbal communication skills. A writing sample is required for consideration.
  • Applicants must have a strong interest in pursuing a career in nonprofit administration.
  • Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Description

Possible learning opportunities include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching individual, corporation and donor prospects for Nature Cat and the 10 that Changed America series. This is the primary focus for this internship
  • Creating collateral and updating materials for special project solicitations
  • Assisting with creating stewardship mailings and reports for project sponsors
  • Assisting with sponsor recognition and benefit fulfillment
  • Participating in the gift acknowledgement process
  • Providing assistance for special fundraising events for both WTTW and 98.7WFMT during the internship period
  • Attend development department staff meetings to gain insight into the overall fundraising process

Learning objectives for this internship include: a refined understanding of high-level prospect research and developing a thorough understanding of the donor cultivation and solicitation cycle. This internship will be primarily supervised by two experienced fundraising professionals who will routinely evaluate his or her work. The supervisors will also request feedback from the intern throughout the internship period to ensure that s/he is having a positive, educational work experience.
