Independence Boulevard is another of William Le Baron Jenney's intricate boulevards connecting Douglas, Garfield, and Humboldt Parks. Beginning at Independence Square and heading north to the Eisenhower Expressway, Independence runs through Chicago's historic Lawndale neighborhood. At one time, the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Roosevelt Road was the commercial core of Chicago's Jewish community. Just east of Independence Boulevard stood one of the worlds first movie palaces, Balaban and Katzs Central Park Theatre.
