5:30 pm: Screening and Discussion
WTTW, Northern Illinois University, and Scrappers Film Group invite you to attend a free screening and discussion about the digital video series that follows five students, in school and community settings across the Chicago area, as they prepare for the highly competitive selective enrollment process that could impact not only the next four years, but the rest of their lives.
Before the preview screening and discussion, join Northern Illinois University staff Pati Sievert, STEM Outreach Director and Gillian King-Cargile, Outreach and Engagement Communications Coordinator to learn about innovative ways to infuse science, technology, engineering, arts and math into your classroom. Then, you’ll meet the filmmakers and our co-producers – Ben Ashby and Brian Kolak from the Scrappers Film Group – as they share what it was like to follow and document the educational lives of five 8th grade students for a year. We’ll show parts of the documentary series, and then follow the screening with a panel discussion with the Scrappers; Christine Malecki, Professor of Psychology and Director of the School Psychology Program; and Felicia Bohanon, Director, Office of Precollegiate Programs at Northern.
This event is free but reservations are required.
