WTTW’s groundbreaking film review series Sneak Previews, starring legendary film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, premiered on WTTW in 1975. Together, Siskel and Ebert forever changed the way audiences watched and discussed movies – their spirited debates and thoughtful insights encouraged a new kind of engagement with film.
In honor of the 50th anniversary of Sneak Previews, DCASE and the Chicago Film Office will present a free weekly screening series throughout November, revisiting some of Gene and Roger’s favorite films.
On Wednesday, November 12 at 7:00 pm, WTTW invites you to screen Breaking Away (1979), directed by Peter Yates. This heartfelt coming-of-age story set in Bloomington, Indiana and follows four working-class teens as they face the challenges of growing up as they prepare for the “Little 500” bicycle race.
Sneak Previews producer Thea Flaum, who selected the film for this event, will join the post-screening panel discussion. This event is free, but RSVP is required. Seating is first come, first served.
