Join WTTW and The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center for a preview of and discussion about Becoming Thurgood: America’s Social Architect. This new film is directed and produced by Alexis Aggrey and Emmy-winning documentarian and Firelight Films co-founder Stanley Nelson serves as executive producer. The documentary profiles the iconic ThurgoodMarshall, the first African American to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, and it premieres on all WTTW platforms beginning Tuesday, September 9 at 9:00 pm.
Becoming Thurgood: America’s Social Architect traces Marshall’s life and career from his birth in Baltimore in 1908, through his years at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Lincoln University and Howard University School of Law, and follows his groundbreaking career as a judge and lawyer championing civil rights.
After the film, Brandis Friedman, the Alexandra and John Nichols Chief Correspondent and Anchor for Chicago Tonight and Black Voices, will moderate a conversation with Kim Foxx, former State's Attorney for Cook County, Illinois (the second largest prosecutor's office in the United States) and Perri Irmer, President and CEO of The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center.
