Presented to an architect whose work embodies the principles of classical and traditional architecture.
Robert A.M. Stern is best known as an architect whose buildings are rooted in the historic tradition of the built world. However, his reputation as a modern traditionalist is not the whole story. Stern heads a successful New York architectural firm with commissions from diverse clients worldwide including distinctive modernist structures and several buildings which rely on video and LED technology.
He is also the Dean of Yale's School of Architecture and prolific author whose tomes are measured not in pages but pounds. At Yale, Sterns faculty includes hard-core modernists, many of whom Stern calls close personal friends.
Architect Robert A.M. Stern: Presence of the Past explores how Stern bridges the very divide in architecture he works to define that between the modernists and the traditionalists. The end result is a new understanding of Stern's unique contributions to America's architectural landscape and discourse.
