"It's Basic" Documentary Film Screening and Panel Discussion

WTTW, in partnership with The University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice invites you to a screening of It's Basic, an award-winning documentary film on Guaranteed Income pilot programs in the United States. Directed by Marc Levin and executive produced by Mayors for a Guaranteed Income (MGI) Founder Michael Tubbs, the film explores the power of cash, the importance of dignity, and the ongoing work of providing an income floor through the eyes of guaranteed income recipients who have witnessed firsthand the life-altering effects of financial stability.
Directly following the film, a panel discussion will take place with:
- Toni Preckwinkle, President, Cook County Board of Commissioners
- Mayor Michael Tubbs, Special Advisor to California Governor Gavin Newsom for Economic Mobility; "It's Basic" Film Executive Producer
- Margaret M.C. Thomas, PhD, Assistant Professor, University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice
This event is in conjunction with WTTW’s FIRSTHAND: Living in Poverty, an award winning initiative that explores intergenerational poverty in Chicago.
Dinner will be served immediately following the screening and during the panel discussion.
