A new Masterpiece adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo will be available to stream by WTTW Passport members via the PBS app beginning March 1, 2026, while the broadcast premiere on WTTW will begin March 22.

The adaptation of the classic nineteenth-century French novel stars Sam Claflin as lead character Edmond Dantès, Ana Girardot as his fiancée Mercedes, Jeremy Irons as his fellow prisoner Abbé Faria, and Blake Ritson as his crewmate Danglars. Telling the story of a sailor who takes on a false title and plots revenge after escaping from an island prison, it is directed by the Academy Award and two-time Palme d'Or winner Bille August.
