A British translator falls in love with a Polish waitress in Warsaw despite a girlfriend back home, while World War II looms. The waitress's father and brother go to defend Danzig, and an American journalist warns that Germany is about to invade Poland.

In the finale of Sanditon, everything nears a happy ending as the midsummer ball approaches and Tom's plans for the town begin to bear fruit. Charlotte and Sidney try to figure out where they stand in their relationship, as do Esther and Lord Babington. 

Sidney finds himself confused in what he wants by the return of an old acquaintance as Sanditon's regatta takes place. An unexpected turn of events drastically alters the relationships between Esther, Edward, and Clara. 

Sidney and Charlotte are once again thrown together as they both try to rescue Georgiana after her disappearance. The experience leads Sidney to re-evaluate his approach to life. Meanwhile, Edward and Clara vie for Lady Denham's estate. 

An annual cricket match provides an opportunity for Lady Denham to help on a marriage between her neice Esther and Lord Babington and also an ideal distraction for Georgiana. As the gentry play against the workers, the workers grumble about missed payments. 

Margaret works to save her relationship with Henry and Helen both, but Helen disappears to Germany and refuses much further contact. When she eventualyl returns to England, all the characters meet and events get out of control, in the final part of Howards End.

Charlotte finds herself an awkward third wheel when Georgiana's lover comes to visit her in Sanditon. Once again, Charlotte reassesses her view of Sidney. Meanwhile, Clara and Esther come to a bit of an understanding over the cruelty of men. 

Margaret receives an unexpected offer from Henry, while he is impressed by her independence. Helen is angered by the increasing difficulties of Leonard's life, and her attempt to redress them leads to a crisis in Margaret's life. 

Clara proves her ability during a construction accident and beings to repair relations with Sidney, while a medical demonstration is used for advantage in the struggle between Esther and Clara over Lady Denham's will.

A surprising request from Ruth Wilcox and a change of circumstances draws Henry Wilcox closer to Margaret Schlegel, while she and Helen attempt to help the principled Leonard Bast. The Schlegels face a decision as they look for new housing.

The eccentrics of Sanditon begin to clash, especially at a luncheon Lady Denham throws in honor of the heiress Miss Lambe. Charlotte and Miss Lambe's strong-willed opinions put them in conflict with Lady Denham, while Sidney rebuffs an apology from Charlotte. 

The young, eager-for-experience Charlotte Heywood finds herself amongst a cast of odd characters when she is taken to the wannabe seaside resort town of Sanditon, and is quickly drawn into their ambitions, intrigues, and rivalries. 

Sisters Margaret and Helen Schlegel are independent and idealistic, but their increasing connection to the affluent, industrialist Wilcox family causes some tension. The downtrodden Leonard Bast offers a completely different perspective from either family. 

When the future star Louise Brooks is accepted at a prestigious dance school in New York, she needs a chaperone to escort her from Wichita and rein in her wild impulses. Norma Brooks senses her own opportunity to change a staid life, and joins Louise on the journey East.
