It's confirmed. A Downton Abbey movie is coming, with original writer Julian Fellowes writing the script and original production company Carnival Films producing. Although we don't yet know the cast, filming is scheduled to begin in September. Supposedly the script is already written, since Fellowes was so eager to make a film that he wrote one just in case.
So far, it seems that Maggie Smith is the only hold-out. She did joke that the movie could start with the dowager's funeral, so it could go on without her.
In the mean time, if you need a Downton fix, Joanne Froggatt, who played Anna Bates, can be seen in the upcoming Masterpiece special Dark Angel, in which she plays Britain's first female serial killer. It airs Sunday, May 21 at 8:00 pm.
Stay tuned for cast announcements and more details.
