Masterpiece has announced a new police procedural featuring a rule-breaking forensic pathologist with a secret and a no-nonsense detective. Winter will start with six episodes starring Richard Armitage as the analytical Dr. Ethan Winter and Annabel Scholey as DI Lauren Bell working together to solve cases in Bristol, England.

The new series is based on the French show Balthazar, which aired five seasons from 2018 through 2023. It is produced by Eagle Eye Drama along with Masterpiece and the British ITV Studios. Eagle Eye is headed by Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino, the producer behind the Walter Presents collection of European dramas and mysteries available to stream via the PBS app by Passport members. Eagle Eye is behind such recent shows seen on PBS and WTTW as Hotel Portofino, the British Professor T, and Patience, and Winter will feature some of the same team that has worked on Professor T.

Filming is scheduled to start in Bristol and Belgium early next year.
