Building strong, healthy relationships with others is key to academic success. In addition, learning persistence, sparking curiosity, and developing strategies for self-regulating behaviors and emotions as a child help to make learning easier and relationships healthier throughout a person’s lifetime.

Language and Literacy
While reading and writing are the building blocks of learning, younger children need to acquire skills to help them use language to communicate ideas, thoughts, and feelings. To properly communicate, students must first learn how to listen and understand language. Attaining proper communication skills will lead to discovering new words and strengthening text comprehension.

Math
There is an increased effort by early childhood educators to boost math instruction and skill building from a child’s earliest years through third grade. Demonstrating proficiency in mathematics has been found to affect a child’s interest and confidence in the subject as they get older, and demonstrations of readiness in math during elementary and middle school are linked to students being more likely to attend and graduate from college.
