As we wrap up season 14 of Call the Midwife on WTTW and PBS, there's exciting news for the long-running British show. Season 15 has started filming, with a 16th due after that, but there's more: a prequel series and a film are both in the works.
The prequel series will take us back to Poplar during World War II, a period often mentioned in the show but never seen. Presumably characters such as Sister Monica Joan, Sister Julienne, and Nurse Crane will feature, given that all of them have occasionally referenced working during the war years. Perhaps Fred and Miss Higgins might also make appearances.
While we don't yet know much about the movie, it will take place outside of Britain in 1972, the year after that in which season 15 will be set. It sounds like it will star many of the characters we've come to know from the current seasons.
No word yet on whether the prequel or film will air on WTTW and PBS and be available to stream via Passport, but we'll keep you updated. In the meantime, you can recap many previous seasons of Call the Midwife.
